Wendy Figures has been involved in swimming all her life, attaining a high standard of competitive success as a swimmer in her youth. She qualified as a swimming instructor in 1984 and spent 19 years working for Sheffield City Council as their swimming development officer before starting up The Sheffield Swim School in 2001.

She is a qualified ASA tutor, as well as holding the ASA level 2 qualification, so can train other people to become swimming teachers. In addition, she is a trained lifeguard and also holds the level 1 qualifications for teaching diving and water polo.

All of Wendy’s teachers hold the ASA level 2 qualification for teaching swimming, this being the required qualification for teaching our swimming classes without additional supervision. We also employ staff to assist with swimming lessons - these staff either hold or are working towards the ASA level 1 qualification for teaching swimming. All teachers attend regular update seminars in order to ensure their knowledge is up to date. All teachers also hold a recognised lifesaving qualification.
